Welcome

Welcome to my ever-evolving blog. It started out as a blog on Beachbody workouts and products, mainly when I was a Beachbody coach. I no longer coach, not because I don't believe in Beachbody's programs (I subscribe to Beachbody on Demand and use their workouts every day), I am just not a salesperson and hated that aspect of it. I am more than willing to answer questions about my experiences with their products and the various workouts, and I feel freer to do so without the appearance of giving a biased review of something.

I have also started adding reviews for various things I have purchased like movies, books, CDs, and other products. This was brought about by a fight with Amazon in which all of my reviews were removed over a completely bullshit allegation that I posted a review that violated their terms of service. After going back and forth with the morons in the community-reviews department (even after they admitted that my posts did not violate their guidelines) they restored my account (which took them six months to do), but I have been posting my reviews on my blog to have them preserved in case something like that happens again. And here, I will post uncensored reviews so I will swear from time to time and post reviews that may be longer than Amazon's character limit. Everything I post here on any topic or product is my personal opinion, and I take no compensation for any product reviews I post. I am a member of Amazon's vine program and because I get those products for free, I keep those reviews on Amazon only, but everything I have purchased with my own money, whether from Amazon or some other store/website/outlet, I will post here.

I also plan to do some longer blog posts on various topics, such as how to learn physics, how to get through calculus, and longer reviews of workout programs as I do them. Basically, whatever strikes me as interesting at the time.  As you can see if you navigate around the blog, I had many years in between postings. During that time I was going back to school to get an engineering degree, and learning material that I avoided my first time through college was a different experience and one that gave me a lot of insight into how to do well in those classes, which I will try to impart here for those who are looking to get a science or engineering degree.

Workout Update: Insanity Max 30/Chalean Extreme/Body Beast/P90X Hybrid Day 3

Day 3 was the Insanity Max 30 Sweat Intervals workout. It, like the Cardio Challenge workout, has a five-minute warmup that cycles through four moves/exercises, then several sets that consist of three exercises that last for thirty seconds. Each set has three rounds cycling through the three different moves, and then you get a break. I maxed out in this workout almost 2/3 of the way through making it to about 19 and a half minutes.

This workout has the same problem as Tabata Power in that there are some exercises in which the modifier is barely shown, so if you are doing the modified moves and do not know what the modification is already you either have to guess or wait until the modifier is shown to know what to do. If you have already maxed out, that is fine, but if not, it kind of defeats the purpose of moving until you max out. So, as I said before, it would be nice if they included the modifier track. One thing that is on the DVDs that you do not have to sit through when using the BOD app is the warning screen with the pep talk voiceover from Shaun T that you cannot skip past. So, that is a good tradeoff.

One thing I like about the cast this time is there is a mix of "regular" people and people you can tell are professionally in the fitness industry. It is amazing that they keep allowing Shanita (Ms. "I wanna leave" in the original Insanity program) to keep coming back because she keeps demonstrating how little effort she puts into things. She was the first one to max out in the workout, in the first round of the first set after the warmup and break, and she was putting little to no effort into any of the moves and taking a ton of breaks throughout the workout. A good contrast is when the group is doing switch-kick punches and they are filming Shannon, who is going all out and you can see Shanita down the line totally half-assing it. Sarah, who is to Shaun's right in the front during this workout (who is clearly a fitness professional, or should be if she is not) is going all out the entire time and it is just hilarious to see the contrast with Shanita behind her stopping for about 10-seconds at a time. Now, I know the workouts are hard, and other people stop and pause throughout the workout. Even the people in the best shape have to at some point. But, when they get back into it, they are going at 100% again, and she clearly is not. Even the lady in the back (I cannot remember her name) who looks like a regular person just trying to be in the best shape she can be, who is not in as good of shape as Shanita seems to be, is busting her ass throughout the entire workout. But, most of the cast are really pushing themselves and you can tell how hard the workout is.
