Welcome

Welcome to my ever-evolving blog. It started out as a blog on Beachbody workouts and products, mainly when I was a Beachbody coach. I no longer coach, not because I don't believe in Beachbody's programs (I subscribe to Beachbody on Demand and use their workouts every day), I am just not a salesperson and hated that aspect of it. I am more than willing to answer questions about my experiences with their products and the various workouts, and I feel freer to do so without the appearance of giving a biased review of something.

I have also started adding reviews for various things I have purchased like movies, books, CDs, and other products. This was brought about by a fight with Amazon in which all of my reviews were removed over a completely bullshit allegation that I posted a review that violated their terms of service. After going back and forth with the morons in the community-reviews department (even after they admitted that my posts did not violate their guidelines) they restored my account (which took them six months to do), but I have been posting my reviews on my blog to have them preserved in case something like that happens again. And here, I will post uncensored reviews so I will swear from time to time and post reviews that may be longer than Amazon's character limit. Everything I post here on any topic or product is my personal opinion, and I take no compensation for any product reviews I post. I am a member of Amazon's vine program and because I get those products for free, I keep those reviews on Amazon only, but everything I have purchased with my own money, whether from Amazon or some other store/website/outlet, I will post here.

I also plan to do some longer blog posts on various topics, such as how to learn physics, how to get through calculus, and longer reviews of workout programs as I do them. Basically, whatever strikes me as interesting at the time.  As you can see if you navigate around the blog, I had many years in between postings. During that time I was going back to school to get an engineering degree, and learning material that I avoided my first time through college was a different experience and one that gave me a lot of insight into how to do well in those classes, which I will try to impart here for those who are looking to get a science or engineering degree.

Product Review: HomeRight C800251 3/8 inch Roller Cover for Paint Power Roller

This is a replacement roller cover for the Wagner Spraytech Right PaintStick C800953.M Roller Applicator. The fibers do not shed on the wall, and you get good coverage with it. I love using the PaintStick for smaller areas where you need to use a paint roller.

Product Review: Wagner Spraytech Right PaintStick Roller Applicator

This is a paint roller that allows you to put paint in the handle which then runs to the roller brush, reducing the need for constantly reloading paint on the brush. I found that watching the YouTube video on how to use this helped a lot. It works best if you have paint in a one-gallon can. The valve that you have to connect between the paint can and the stick does not really connect to a five-gallon bucket. It makes painting a far less messy process, with fewer drips than using a regular roller, as the paint is "stored" in the handle as you use it, and once you get it going, paints a lot more evenly. I definitely recommend this.

Product Review: Purdy 140786104 White Dove High Density Woven Covers 3/8" Nap Mini Roller

This is a very durable small roller brush, which is very good for doing smaller spaces and edges (although not cutting). You will want to edge with something smaller, like a brush, then use this to do a larger space around the edge. You can easily do a whole small room without the roller starting to shed or lose effectiveness.

Product Review: Trimaco SuperTuff 10 oz thick Heavyweight Canvas Drop Cloth

This is a canvas dropcloth to use when painting to protect your floors. It is not a huge canvas, but definitely does what it is supposed to. It will definitely protect your floors from paint drips. But, if you are doing a large room, you may want to get a larger one so you do not have to move it along with you as you go around the room.

Product Review: Scotch Original Multi-Surface Painter's Tape

This is painter's tape that works well to keep paint off surfaces you do not want it on.  It is especially handy if you are not good at cutting edges by hand. You can also use it in place of masking tape in a pinch.

Product Review: Wooster Brush, 4-Inch Roller Frame

This is a good, sturdy, small roller that allows you to roll paint in smaller spaces. You can attach it to a paint pole, if necessary, and it stays tight without coming loose. Definitely a good deal.

Product Review: Paint Roller Cover, Paint Roller Kit 9 Inch 3/8 Inch Nap

You can get a couple of coats in a decent-sized room or front entryway with these before they start shedding. They also do rinse off fairly well with water so if you have not used them up at the end of your paint job, they can be cleaned and reused. They are not as durable as some of the more expensive roller pads, but they give you good coverage and are good for smaller jobs. If you are painting multiple rooms in the same color, however, you may want to get ones that last a bit longer.

Product Review: Wooster 48493 Deluxe Metal Paint Tray

This is an affordable and very sturdy paint tray. It is reusable, especially if you use paint tray liners while you are painting. And, it is large enough that you can get a good amount of paint in it and do not have to constantly refill it. It is definitely worth the price.

Product Review: Shur-Line 2007053 Premium Corner Painter

I like the concept of this, but the execution is a bit off. The idea is that you can edge two walls at the same time by putting paint on each side of the edger. However, I found that to get good enough coverage that you do not leave bare spots you have to coat both sides with so much paint it is prone to dripping on the floor, so you definitely need to keep any floors you do not want paint dripped on covered with a drop cloth. And, while you can put it on a paint pole, it is very hard to control the paint coverage when doing so.

Product Review: Scotch Painter's Tape Delicate Surface Painter's Tape

As a part of renovating my townhouse, I painted many of the walls and the existing doors and door frames. I used this around the door frames to get an edge where the wall and the frame meet. While the edge did look good, it did pull up some of the paint from portions of the door frames requiring touch-ups after removing the tape.

Product Review: Industrial Grade Paint Stir Stick

This is great as a reusable paint stirrer if you are painting with different colors (such as painting an accent wall). Unlike the wooden stirrers, you can easily wash this off, or peel the dried paint off, and use it again. It definitely comes in handy if you are doing a lot of painting with different colors.

Product Review: Shur-Line 6620 9" Premium Grip Paint Roller Frame

This is a very solid, and well-put-together paint roller. It is much better than some of the cheaper rollers out there. It holds the roller brushes on well, and I have had no issue with them sliding around. My only complaint, and what knocks it down a star for me, is that when you attach it to an extension pole, as you paint it unscrews itself and becomes loose, so you keep having to tighten it to the pole. That can be a pain when painting elevated areas like vaulted walls. Aside from that, however, if you are just holding onto it and not using it on a pole, this is absolutely worth the price.

Product Review: FROGTAPE 280222 Delicate Surface Painter's Tape with PaintBlock

I used this to tape around door frames so I could paint the walls around the doors (which had also been painted along with the frames). I specifically used the tape for delicate surfaces because the door frames had been newly painted. When taking this off, some of the paint did come off the doors. The tape would remove fine, then pull a bunch of the paint from the door off, then be fine again. so, needless to say, the door frames needed touching up again. And, the tape did allow some amount of bleed-through in some spots. So, it does not work as advertised, at least in some situations.

Product Review: Shur-Line 06100 Gallon Can Paint Pourer

This is a pour spout that fits a one-gallon paint can perfectly, makes pouring the paint into a tray a whole lot easier, and avoids causing a huge mess with paint dripping down the side of the can. When the paint on the pourer dries you can just peel it off and reuse it. I definitely recommend it.

Product Review: Mr. Longarm 4.9 in. W x 4.4 in. L White Foam Applicator

I have a townhouse with a lot of vaulted ceilings and painted most of the rooms a couple of years ago. This definitely helps with edging at the top of the vaulted walls. It would work even better if I did not have popcorn ceilings in some of the rooms, so right at the very top, I had to have a professional go up there with a brush to finish. But for the edges that were not against the popcorn ceilings, this gave awesome coverage, much better than a roller, and allows you to do a lot of painting before it wears out (which you will know has happened when it starts peeling away from the backing). I definitely recommend it.

Product Review: ALLWAY GPS5 Paint Pouring Spout for 5-Gallon Containers

I renovated my townhouse back in 2020, which included painting most of the rooms. Thus, I purchased a couple of 5-gallon buckets of paint. Of course, those are very heavy and hard to pour paint from. This makes it much easier to pour from the buckets, regardless of whether they have the tab you pull out or the cap you unscrew. If your bucket has the former, you can separate the "inner portion" which is the pour spout itself, from the base, and just push that into the hole after you pull the tab out. If it is the latter, you simply unscrew the cap on the bucket, and screw the base with the spout in it, on the same threads. It definitely helps keep paint from getting everywhere or pouring out too fast from the bucket. I definitely recommend this.

Product Review: Mr. LongArm Trim Smart Paint Edger

When I was renovating my townhome back in 2020, I was doing a lot of painting, including painting vaulted ceilings. This definitely came in very handy to do the edge work. And, it gets a nice coating of paint, much better than a lot of brushes and rollers. The contractors that I used who helped with some of the painting also really love these. The only drawback is that it is hard to keep paint off the wheels, so it is almost impossible to keep all the paint from getting on the connecting wall to the one you are edging, but that is really only an issue if you are going to do an accent wall. Otherwise, these are wonderful.

Product Review: 3M Large Area Drywall Sanding Sponge

This is good for sanding down small uneven portions of drywall or drywall paste that has been used to patch holes in the drywall to get a smooth surface before painting. One side has a medium grit and the other has a fine grit, so it will allow you to get the surface very smooth. It is probably not something that you would use to sand down an entire freshly dry-walled room (or even an entire wall), but it is perfect to spot sand in small areas.
