Welcome

Welcome to my ever-evolving blog. It started out as a blog on Beachbody workouts and products, mainly when I was a Beachbody coach. I no longer coach, not because I don't believe in Beachbody's programs (I subscribe to Beachbody on Demand and use their workouts every day), I am just not a salesperson and hated that aspect of it. I am more than willing to answer questions about my experiences with their products and the various workouts, and I feel freer to do so without the appearance of giving a biased review of something.

I have also started adding reviews for various things I have purchased like movies, books, CDs, and other products. This was brought about by a fight with Amazon in which all of my reviews were removed over a completely bullshit allegation that I posted a review that violated their terms of service. After going back and forth with the morons in the community-reviews department (even after they admitted that my posts did not violate their guidelines) they restored my account (which took them six months to do), but I have been posting my reviews on my blog to have them preserved in case something like that happens again. And here, I will post uncensored reviews so I will swear from time to time and post reviews that may be longer than Amazon's character limit. Everything I post here on any topic or product is my personal opinion, and I take no compensation for any product reviews I post. I am a member of Amazon's vine program and because I get those products for free, I keep those reviews on Amazon only, but everything I have purchased with my own money, whether from Amazon or some other store/website/outlet, I will post here.

I also plan to do some longer blog posts on various topics, such as how to learn physics, how to get through calculus, and longer reviews of workout programs as I do them. Basically, whatever strikes me as interesting at the time.  As you can see if you navigate around the blog, I had many years in between postings. During that time I was going back to school to get an engineering degree, and learning material that I avoided my first time through college was a different experience and one that gave me a lot of insight into how to do well in those classes, which I will try to impart here for those who are looking to get a science or engineering degree.

Supplement Review: Legion Recharge Post Workout Supplement

I use this after any high-impact cardio workout or after lifting/circuit training. It definitely helps with post-workout soreness. It mixes well (I use a Blendjet 2 to mix it, and there are no lumps left after the 20-second cycle). I have not tried just putting it in a water bottle or shaker cup and shaking it though, but with something like a small blender, it mixes fine.

The fruit punch flavor tastes pretty good although it is not as good as the original P90X post-workout drink (which I do not think is being made anymore) that they sold when the program first came out, which tasted like a creamsicle. But, this is a bit less expensive than that was, and gets you more servings than that did. And, it is not loaded with sugar like some post-workout powders are. I definitely recommend it.

Supplement Review: Vitafusion Fiber Well Sugar Free Fiber Supplement

While this is not a substitute for getting fiber through foods, it is a good way to boost your fiber consumption (you get five grams of fiber from two gummies) in order to help you hit a fiber target (or just get a bit more fiber than you normally would). They are sweetened with sugar alcohol and have ten calories per serving. Basically, they taste like gummy bears without having the sugar and calorie content, and way more fiber than gummy bears will ever get you. And, they are way better than most of those fiber powders that you can mix with water or juice.

Supplement Review: Extra Strength Testosterone Booster for Men

This is promoted as a natural testosterone booster. I tried using it over the course of a few months and never noticed a huge increase in endurance or strength,. I also noticed that after a while the tablets seemed to be getting more and more of a gritty texture which has made them a lot harder to swallow (at least for me). Hence, I canceled my Subscribe and Save subscription on Amazon.

Supplement Review: Hydroxycut Hardcore Next Gen

I used these more as a pre-workout jump start than I did with any expectation of fat burning. In that vein, they were good, but at a full dose gave me too much of a caffeine jolt, and made it seem like I had a harder time getting to sleep when I was taking 2 in the morning and 2 in the late afternoon. So, you will definitely have to adjust the dose based on your response. I found I did better with taking 2 in the morning and one after lunch.

Supplement Review: Adrenal Support & Cortisol Manager

This is a cortisol control supplement that is supposed to help control stress and promote relaxation. If it works for you, it is good to be able to get it through subscribe and save on Amazon. I did not notice any difference while using it though, regardless of whether I took it in the morning, early evening, or right before bed.

Supplement Review: Nutrivein Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules

Some people swear by Apple Cider Vinegar to help with anything from weight loss to digestive health. I did not really see any kind of benefit from using it. The capsules are easy to swallow but do have a bit of a vinegar aftertaste if you do not keep drinking water or whatever you use to swallow it after you get them down. If you are one of those people who can swallow pills without water, I would not recommend it for these.

Supplement Review: NABUU Immunity Mushroom Supplement

This is a supplement that contains various different types of mushroom extracts. The blend is similar to some of the mushroom gummies that are out there, containing, among other types, Lion's Mane and Turkey Tail extract.

The serving size is two capsules that you take with a meal. The bottle contains 30 servings in total (60 capsules). They are what I would describe as normal-sized capsules that are easy to swallow. But, they do have a pretty bad aftertaste, so it is a good idea to drink them with something flavored or take a bite of whatever you are eating after you swallow them. That said, they are good for someone who wants some of the benefits that mushrooms can provide but who hates the taste and/or texture of actual mushrooms.

Supplement Review: 1 Body Thyroid Support Supplement

This is a supplement that has minerals that help support a healthy Thyroid (such as copper and iodine) as well as helping to maintain a healthy immune system (such as zinc). It also contains a lot of Vitamin B12 and things like Ashwagandha powder. It is not a magic pill that will make you lose a ton of weight overnight or keep you from ever getting a cold. It is a supplement that is meant to be incorporated into an overall healthy lifestyle. Personally, I feel like I have been sleeping a little better since using this (most nights anyway). I think it has especially helped me with staying asleep once I get to sleep and reduced the amount of tossing and turning I do in my sleep.

Each bottle has 60 capsules (a 30-day supply) and directs you to take one in the morning and one in the evening, preferably with meals. They are easy to swallow and do not have an aftertaste (at least not one that I have ever noticed).

Supplement Review: N1N Premium Organic Superfood Greens Natural Fruit and Veggie Supplement

This is a supplement that contains extracts from various types of fruits and vegetables (e.g., blueberries, carrots, red bell peppers, raspberries, garlic, and the like), as well as green (e.g., kale, spinach, and various grasses). The blends are proprietary so it does not tell you how much of each you are getting, nor does it give a specific breakdown of vitamins and minerals. But, assuming their labeling is legit, you are getting some of the nutrients that would be very hard to get through just a whole-food diet, especially if you are not a big fan of eating the actual foods (minus the fiber eating the actual foods would give you).

There are 60 tablets in each bottle, with a serving size being two tablets, so the entire bottle has 30 servings. The directions are to take two tablets 1 to 3 times daily, preferably with meals. The tablets are reasonably sized and easy to swallow. And, they do not have any noticeable aftertaste. This is definitely more reasonably priced than other similar supplements and you can set it up as a subscribe and save item on Amazon to have it sent to you monthly.

Supplement Reviw: Amazon Basic Care Vitamin C Supplement Drops

These are equivalent to the name-brand Vitamin C drops that you can find in most stores. They taste the same and have the same amount of Vitamin C per drop as the name brand (and with these, you get an assortment of flavors instead of just one flavor), but you get a lot more of them for a lot better price than you would pay in the stores. In the store, you would get far fewer per package and pay about the same price as you can get this one for. They are not cough drops but do provide some soothing relief when you have a sore throat. They do have some sugar, but not a crazy amount. But, you would probably not want to take a ton of them in a day, especially if you are eating low-carb or carb-cycling.

Supplement Review: fitcode Flexcode Ultra Premium Joint Support, Glucosamine, Turmeric, MSM, Chondroitin, Hyaluronic Acid

This is a supplement that provides joint support with the main ingredients being Glucosamine, MSM, Chondroitin, and Hyaluronic Acid. Each bottle gives you a 30-day supply (60 capsules) and directs you to take two capsules per day, preferably with food. The capsules are easy to swallow and do not have much of an aftertaste, especially if you swallow them with something that is flavored.

It is always hard to tell how much any supplement is doing for you, but I have had a bad knee for most of my life and one of my shoulders has started to have issues with mobility as I have gotten older, and I do think that both of them feel better as I have started taking this.  So, if you have issues with any of your joints I would recommend trying this to see if it helps you.

Supplement Review: Lions Mane Mushroom Supplement Gummies - Organic Mushroom Gummies - Reishi, Cordyceps, Turkey tail, Maitake, Shitake, Chaga

This mushroom supplement blends different types of mushrooms (like Turkey Tail, Shitake, and Chaga) into a good-tasting gummy. A serving size is two gummies, with about 30 servings per container. These have some sugar, so they taste better than some other mushroom gummy supplements but are not as friendly for those who are doing a low-carb or keto diet. So, if you are someone like me, who wants to get some of the health benefits of mushrooms, but hates the texture of eating the real thing, this is a good option for you (even though it is probably not as healthy as eating the actual mushrooms).

Supplement Review: PreserVision Areds 2 Chewables

This is an eye-health supplement that you take twice daily. It contains a combination of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Copper, and Zinc) as well as Lutein (the stuff in carrots) and Zeaxanthin, which is a pigment in the macula and retina of the eye. The tablets are pretty big, but they are chewable. They have a berry flavor that is not what I would call great, but not horrible either.

While it is always hard to tell how much a supplement such as this does or does not help your eyes, I have been taking eye supplements (Ocuvite before this) for years, and while my eyes have undergone the normal aging changes, they are still very healthy every year when I get them checked. So, I will continue to take these as long as that remains the case.

Supplement Review: Premium Mushroom Gummies Supplement - Mushroom Complex for Immune Health, Brain, Mood & Stress Support

This is a blend of mushrooms, specifically Lion's Mane, Turkey Tail, Reishi, Chaga Extract, and Cordyceps. You get 90 gummies total (two gummies make up a serving). If you are one who is aware of some of the health benefits of mushrooms but hates the texture of eating them raw or cooked (or the thought of eating fungus creeps you out), these are a good option. They do not taste as good as some other mushroom gummies (to me anyway), but if you don't like the taste you can always chase them with something you do like to mask the flavor a bit. Of course, it is pretty much impossible to know how much benefit you get from any supplement like this, and it is not likely to make you go from feeling like crap to feeling in perfect health overnight. But, if you are aware of the health benefits of the mushrooms in the blend, I believe it is worth trying.

Supplement Review: Centrum Adult Multivitamin

This is a standard multivitamin, made by a reputable manufacturer that gets you the daily recommended dose (or in some cases more) of the major vitamins and minerals. The capsules are easy to swallow, meaning they are not too large or too small and do not leave an aftertaste in your mouth.

Supplement Review: 100% Natural Greens Powder, Over 10 Hard to Get Superfoods, Greens Supplement Powder

This is a greens powder that contains extracts from a bunch of different "superfoods" like Goji and Acai, and also has probiotics and fiber for good gut health. This blends well if you use a blender or shaker bottle. While it does have a bit of an aftertaste, it is not as overpowering as some greens powders are, and it does not taste like you are drinking ground-up grass. So, if you are looking for a greens powder, this is a good option.

Supplement Review: Testosterone Booster for Men | Six Star Pro Nutrition

I used this for a while but really did not see any appreciable gains in strength, better workouts, etc. The pills are easy to swallow, which is a plus for sure. However, while a serving is two pills, the recommended daily use is two servings daily, for a total of four pills. So, in order to take the total amount recommended you will need to get two bottles because the bottle only has enough pills to take the full amount for 15 days. That is definitely something to be aware of if you decide to try it.

Supplement Review: Natrol 5-HTP Time Release Tablets

I, thankfully, have never had anxiety so I cannot say how well this does or does not help with that. I was taking it more for help relaxing at the end of the day in hopes that it would help me sleep better. Unfortunately, I did not notice any increase in sleep quality, getting to sleep easier, or the like. The tablets are easy to swallow, and you do get a full 30-day supply in the bottle (1 tablet = one serving taken once daily), so it is not one of those supplements that tell you it has 30 servings in the bottle but also tells you to take more than one serving per day. As one reviewer noted, it does interact with other prescription and over-the-counter drugs, so you definitely want to check out the list of things that you should not take this with before you start taking it, especially if you are on prescription meds which you cannot just stop taking.

Supplement Review: EAS Myoplex Original Protein Shake Mix Packets, Chocolate Cream

Myoplex hit it big in the late 90s/early 2000s when Body for Life was all the rage. It is not a straight protein supplement (although it does have 42g of protein), instead, it is meant to be a meal replacement which means it has a lot more carbs, vitamins, and minerals than straight protein powder has. It tastes okay when mixed with very cold water and better when mixed with milk. Since EAS has gone out of business it is no longer being produced so chances are if you can track down a box of it, it most likely expired (if these things had expiration dates). It is on the more expensive end of the meal replacement spectrum, but if you use it as a snack between meals it is economical (assuming you can still track a box of it down for a reasonable price).

Supplement Review: Nature’s Bounty Vitamin D, Immune Support, 2000 IU, Softgels

This is a good Vitamin D supplement if you have naturally low Vitamin D levels and/or do not get outside a lot. They are very easy to swallow and do not have any aftertaste. I use other supplements that have some Vitamin D in them, so I use the 2000 IU version as opposed to the 3000 or 5000 IU soft gels.
