Welcome

Welcome to my ever-evolving blog. It started out as a blog on Beachbody workouts and products, mainly when I was a Beachbody coach. I no longer coach, not because I don't believe in Beachbody's programs (I subscribe to Beachbody on Demand and use their workouts every day), I am just not a salesperson and hated that aspect of it. I am more than willing to answer questions about my experiences with their products and the various workouts, and I feel freer to do so without the appearance of giving a biased review of something.

I have also started adding reviews for various things I have purchased like movies, books, CDs, and other products. This was brought about by a fight with Amazon in which all of my reviews were removed over a completely bullshit allegation that I posted a review that violated their terms of service. After going back and forth with the morons in the community-reviews department (even after they admitted that my posts did not violate their guidelines) they restored my account (which took them six months to do), but I have been posting my reviews on my blog to have them preserved in case something like that happens again. And here, I will post uncensored reviews so I will swear from time to time and post reviews that may be longer than Amazon's character limit. Everything I post here on any topic or product is my personal opinion, and I take no compensation for any product reviews I post. I am a member of Amazon's vine program and because I get those products for free, I keep those reviews on Amazon only, but everything I have purchased with my own money, whether from Amazon or some other store/website/outlet, I will post here.

I also plan to do some longer blog posts on various topics, such as how to learn physics, how to get through calculus, and longer reviews of workout programs as I do them. Basically, whatever strikes me as interesting at the time.  As you can see if you navigate around the blog, I had many years in between postings. During that time I was going back to school to get an engineering degree, and learning material that I avoided my first time through college was a different experience and one that gave me a lot of insight into how to do well in those classes, which I will try to impart here for those who are looking to get a science or engineering degree.

Product Review: Saucony Men's Multi-Pack Mesh Ventilating Comfort Fit Performance No-Show Socks

These are decent athletic socks. The one drawback is that they are so low profile that the ankle height makes it easy for them to bunch and slip off your feet when taking off your shoes (especially if you have slip-on shoes). But when you have just the socks on, they are just fine. They are a good value and comfortable. If the ankle height was a little larger, they would be perfect.

Product Review: Hanes Men's 5-Pack X-Temp Comfort Cool Assorted Boxer Briefs

This is a five-pack of boxer briefs. They fit well, and the size chart is accurate. They do not bunch or ride up and are overall very comfortable. They are definitely a good value and worth the price.

Product Review: Saucony Men's Multi-pack Mesh Ventilating Comfort Fit Performance No-Show Socks

These are comfortable "no show" socks, meaning they are mostly hidden when wearing shoes, even regular-height tennis/athletic shoes. My only issue with them is that they verge on being too small, and can sometimes slip off your foot when you are taking your shoes off (if you slip them on and off). Aside from that, they are comfortable once you get used to them and are worth picking up.

Product Review: CHARMKING Compression Socks for Women & Men Circulation (3 Pairs)

This is a 3-pack of knee-high compression socks. I mainly got them to give a couple pairs to my mom since her doctor recommended that she start wearing them, but I also kept a pair for myself. They do take a few minutes to get used to since they are much tighter than cotton socks (as you would expect). But, once you do get used to them, they are very comfortable. They are fine for both "normal" daily use and for working out. In fact, if you get the darker pairs, they look nice enough that you can wear them with dress shoes and nobody would be able to tell that they are not dress socks.

Product Review: Skechers Men's Afterburn M. Fit Wonted Loafer

These are a good (and relatively inexpensive) pair of no-tie Sketchers shoes. While they are called loafers, they are pretty much a sneaker, both in look and feel. So, they are not something that you would wear with a suit, but could probably get away with wearing them if you are dressing business-casual. While some reviews note the fit being off, they fit me perfectly and are very easy to get on and off. I would not call them slip-ons, however, as I do have to use two hands to get them on. But, even so, they are much easier than dealing with shoes with laces that need to be tied.

Product Review: OZERO Winter Thermal Gloves Men Women Touch Screen Water Resistant Windproof Anti Slip Gloves

I live in Minnesota which can get some very cold winters. I was looking for a pair of winter gloves that I could wear when I knew I would be in a situation in which I would need the use of my hands, such as getting mail out of my locked mailbox, without having to take the gloves off. To that end, these definitely work. That is not to say that your hands can never get cold while wearing them, but if you are going to be outside for a short period of time in very cold weather, or want a good pair of winter driving gloves, these are definitely a good option. You can use the touchscreen of a smartphone or tablet with the index finger of the glove, but it does not work as well as using your bare hand. The sizing chart is fairly accurate, but if your hands are kind of between sizes, the size that the chart tells you to get may be a little bit big. Overall, however, I do like these and would recommend them.

Product Review: Dickies Men's Dri-tech Moisture Control Crew Socks Multipack

I live in the northern part of the country where it can get very cold in the winter, even inside the house. These socks are great for keeping your feet warm, without making them sweat. They are good for just lounging around the house, or you can even work out in them comfortably. Definitely a good pickup.

Product Review: adidas Men's Athletic Cushioned Crew Socks

These are pretty standard socks. I would not say that they are very cushioned, but there is a little bit more material on the bottom than in the other areas of the sock. They are longer than most athletic socks tend to be. I would have preferred that they go just above the ankle, but those go up to the mid-shin. But, they are much better than the socks that go up to just below the ankle or right over the ankle joint (the no-show socks) because those tend to slide down my foot and get bunched up when I am working out.

Product Review: Hanes Men's T-Shirt Pack, Essential-T Cotton T-Shirt 4-Pack

These are pretty standard cotton t-shirts. They fit pretty well and are not too tight in the shoulders or waist. The only drawback is that they use the old-school tags that are sewn onto the shirt as opposed to printing the information from the tag onto the shirt itself. So, the tag can be itchy on your neck unless you cut it off. Other than that, however, I have no complaints and would recommend these if you are looking for a reasonably priced pack of t-shirts.

Product Review: Champion Jacket Mens Big and Tall Hoodie Anorak Windbreaker Jacket for Men

This is a pretty standard windbreaker. It is rain-resistant (to an extent) and has a hood which is nice. What knocks it down a star for me is that, while it does have zippered side pockets. It does have a large front pouch-like pocket (that extends all the way across the belly) that does not zip and it does have a hiddle zippered front pocket between the chest and belly. Given that you have to pull it over your head to get it on or off (the front zipper only goes partway down the jacket so you can get your head in), there is a risk of things falling out the sides of the pouch-like pocket. Thankfully, that pocket is pretty deep so as long as you are careful taking it off you won't end up with everything falling out of the pocket. But, since it has the zippered hidden pocket in front anyway, I think it would have been better if they had just gone with "regular" side pockets that can zip up to hold things like keys.
