Welcome

Welcome to my ever-evolving blog. It started out as a blog on Beachbody workouts and products, mainly when I was a Beachbody coach. I no longer coach, not because I don't believe in Beachbody's programs (I subscribe to Beachbody on Demand and use their workouts every day), I am just not a salesperson and hated that aspect of it. I am more than willing to answer questions about my experiences with their products and the various workouts, and I feel freer to do so without the appearance of giving a biased review of something.

I have also started adding reviews for various things I have purchased like movies, books, CDs, and other products. This was brought about by a fight with Amazon in which all of my reviews were removed over a completely bullshit allegation that I posted a review that violated their terms of service. After going back and forth with the morons in the community-reviews department (even after they admitted that my posts did not violate their guidelines) they restored my account (which took them six months to do), but I have been posting my reviews on my blog to have them preserved in case something like that happens again. And here, I will post uncensored reviews so I will swear from time to time and post reviews that may be longer than Amazon's character limit. Everything I post here on any topic or product is my personal opinion, and I take no compensation for any product reviews I post. I am a member of Amazon's vine program and because I get those products for free, I keep those reviews on Amazon only, but everything I have purchased with my own money, whether from Amazon or some other store/website/outlet, I will post here.

I also plan to do some longer blog posts on various topics, such as how to learn physics, how to get through calculus, and longer reviews of workout programs as I do them. Basically, whatever strikes me as interesting at the time.  As you can see if you navigate around the blog, I had many years in between postings. During that time I was going back to school to get an engineering degree, and learning material that I avoided my first time through college was a different experience and one that gave me a lot of insight into how to do well in those classes, which I will try to impart here for those who are looking to get a science or engineering degree.

Supplement Review: NutraBio Micellar Casein - Protein Powder, 2 lbs Strawberry Ice Cream

This is a slow-digesting protein that is good to use between meals or before bed. It tastes very good (especially with milk) and blends well using a BlendJet or similar blender. I am not sure how well it mixes in a shaker cup, but I have not used a shaker cup to mix protein powder for a long time. The only drawback is that you do not get 30 servings per container (1 scoop = 1 serving). For some reason, this only has 27 servings per container. But, you get 25g of protein and just 2g of carbs per serving which can be adjusted depending on what you mix it with.

Product Review: Whey Protein Powder | Six Star Whey Protein Plus

This does taste fairly well for a protein powder, especially if you blend it as opposed to using a shaker cup. It does give you a decent amount of protein per scoop, but just be aware that there are 18 servings per container, so even if you just do one scoop every day, it is not going to last a month, so that may be a deal breaker, especially given the cost. Also, you are going to be paying for creatine as well, which may not be something you want. Finally, it does have high-fructose corn syrup, which is one of the worst ingredients in any product. Granted, it is at the bottom of the list of ingredients, so it is not as bad as it could be, but if you try to avoid that as much as possible, just be aware that this has some amount in it.

Product Review: Six Star Pro Nutrition Elite Series Casein, Triple Chocolate, 1.5 Pound

This is an excellent tasting slow digesting protein. It is a bit misleading in that the serving size is one scoop but on the front, it says 50g of protein in huge letters and then in smaller type below that, per two scoops. Realistically, most people really only need 25g of protein at a time because much above that will just get peed out. I think it is best either with ice cold water or milk, blended in a blender instead of a shaker cup. It does have some carbs in it, some BCAAs, and a "muscle and strength builder". The latter is likely some form of creatine, but the label is not specific. It says that you can take it between meals or before bed. I always take Caesin protein just before bed to help muscle repair overnight. It is no longer in stock, but it worked well so if you can find the updated version, it is a good choice.

Supplement Review: CYTOSPORT SLEEPING GIANT

This is a protein supplement that is low carb (just 5g of carbs) and has casein protein so it is slower digesting and better to use in the evening. And, it has melatonin and tryptophan, both of which help with falling asleep. I have tried the vanilla caramel flavor and it blends well just with water and tastes good, unlike some protein powders. You definitely do not have to gag it down. Just be aware that the serving size is two scoops and there are only 18 servings (give or take) per container. At nearly $30 per container that is a bit pricey, but not as bad as some protein powders that charge $50 or more for 15 servings.

Supplement Review: Premier Protein Shake, Caramel, 11.5 Fl. Oz (Pack of 12)

As most probably know, RTD protein drinks can range from awful tasting to pretty good. This is definitely on the pretty good (maybe great depending on your taste) end of the spectrum. You get 30g of protein, which is on the higher-end of the RTD spectrum for protein content, which is nice if you work out pretty regularly. It is a bit on the pricey side, with a case of 12 costing upwards of $20 depending on what the inventory levels are. But, if you can get it at a reasonable price, it is definitely worth trying.
