Welcome

Welcome to my ever-evolving blog. It started out as a blog on Beachbody workouts and products, mainly when I was a Beachbody coach. I no longer coach, not because I don't believe in Beachbody's programs (I subscribe to Beachbody on Demand and use their workouts every day), I am just not a salesperson and hated that aspect of it. I am more than willing to answer questions about my experiences with their products and the various workouts, and I feel freer to do so without the appearance of giving a biased review of something.

I have also started adding reviews for various things I have purchased like movies, books, CDs, and other products. This was brought about by a fight with Amazon in which all of my reviews were removed over a completely bullshit allegation that I posted a review that violated their terms of service. After going back and forth with the morons in the community-reviews department (even after they admitted that my posts did not violate their guidelines) they restored my account (which took them six months to do), but I have been posting my reviews on my blog to have them preserved in case something like that happens again. And here, I will post uncensored reviews so I will swear from time to time and post reviews that may be longer than Amazon's character limit. Everything I post here on any topic or product is my personal opinion, and I take no compensation for any product reviews I post. I am a member of Amazon's vine program and because I get those products for free, I keep those reviews on Amazon only, but everything I have purchased with my own money, whether from Amazon or some other store/website/outlet, I will post here.  

I also plan to do some longer blog posts on various topics, such as how to learn physics, how to get through calculus, and longer reviews of workout programs as I do them. Basically, whatever strikes me as interesting at the time.  As you can see if you navigate around the blog, I had many years in between postings. During that time I was going back to school to get an engineering degree, and learning material that I avoided my first time through college was a different experience and one that gave me a lot of insight into how to do well in those classes, which I will try to impart here for those who are looking to get a science or engineering degree.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 94

Day 94 was the last day of the Hybrid workout. This was just the CE Recharge workout (which I still plan to do in the next workout, which will have Insanity Max 30 as the base workout and mix in others on Saturday and Sunday). Recharge was weird today. It almost felt like I had not done the workout at all for about two weeks, even though on some of the moves I was able to get deeper into the stretches than I have in a long time. But, I managed to get through it and got it done. Tomorrow morning will be the first workout of Max 30, Cardio Challenge.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 93

Day 93 was the last Power-90 Sculpt 3-4 workout. I think it went well, but I had increased the weights on a few of the exercises from the last workout so I was back to maxing out at 8 reps on most of the exercises in this workout. It is amazing how the 5lb increase can really affect the ability to do the move. On the lawnmowers, I actually had to max out at six reps when jumping from 35 lbs the last workout to 40 this time. Tomorrow will be Recharge and then Monday morning will begin Insanity Max 30.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 92

Day 92 was cardio and abs. The workout went pretty well, but I did get a bit winded in the middle. I am not quite sure why. I am actually looking forward to doing the Insanity-based workout. I am determined to get into better cardio shape again. I do think doing the modified version and then modifying less and less as I get stronger will get me there. I know I cannot get through it unmodified right now, so I am going to work my way up to the point where I can keep up with the people in the cast.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 91

Day 91 was the sculpt 3-4 workout again. I hit the 10 rep max on a few of the exercises today and generally felt very strong throughout the workout. I have one more go around with this workout and then will be switching up again. This time I am going to do a modified version of Insanity Max 30 and (which has 5 workout days a week) and then on Day 6 I will do some arm workouts (either P90x shoulders and arms) or one of the Bodybeast arm workouts. Then, I will do another round of Max 30 less modified until I can make it through the program without modifying it.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 90

Today was the sweat 1-2 workout. I had to modify a lot today because I had to do the workout late, after dinner with family, so I was not able to do it on my normally empty stomach right after work. But, I pushed as much as I could without throwing up. But, it definitely was not my best workout.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 89

Day 89 was the sculpt 1-2 workout again. I was able to hit the 10 rep max on a couple more exercises, and there were a couple of exercises that had the weight increased from the last workout. Overall, I felt strong during the workout and was able to maintain a good pace.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 88

Day 88 was the sweat 3-4 workout and abs. Yesterday I took a total rest day from working out, so not even doing the recharge workout. This one went okay, but I did get a bit tired during the workout, so I had to pause a couple of times. The abs workout went well, however, and I was able to get through that without pausing or stopping aside from taking just a few seconds between the various exercises.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 87

 Day 87 was the sculpt 1-2 workout again. Like on Thursday, I think this one went very well. I felt very strong and actually hit the 10 rep max on a couple of exercises, and hit nine reps on a couple more. As I said before, I am going to do another week of the hybrid workout to make up for the week I lost because of the issue with my back. Then, I think I am going to do a hybrid with Insanity Max 30 and then maybe add one of the Body Beast arm workouts so I can work on cardio yet not lose strength because of not lifting. I have not completely decided that yet, but that is the way I am leaning.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 86

Day 86 was the sweat 1-2 workout and abs. Today I did the yoga sequence at the beginning, and I did get a bit tired in the middle (around the fast-feet, cross-hop sequence. So, I did find myself having to pause a couple of times during the workout. But, I ultimately got it done.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 85

Day 85 was the sculpt 1-2 workout again. This one went a lot better than Saturday's workout. I was not as gassed by the end and my strength was all the way back. I was still maxing out between 8 and 9 reps on all of the exercises, but I did not feel like I had to overexert myself to get through them.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 84

 Day 84 would have been sculpt 3-4, however, I had a family emergency yesterday and had to skip my workout, so Day 84 ended up being sweat 3-4 tonight. I definitely had to tone it down today because my foot was hurting. I had to wear my copperfit arch supports and that made it a bit better and allowed me to get through the workout, but I was definitely not going to push my luck because there was a little bit of soreness while I was doing the workout, even though it had gotten better throughout the day.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 83

Day 83 was the sweat 1-2 workout and abs. I definitely had a better workout this time than I did last week. I had a lot more stamina and could go faster than I could last week, so I finally feel back to where I was before hurting my back. Even though I am coming up on 90 days, I am going to do an extra week to make up for the week when I was just doing Recharge and then figure out what I want to do from there.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 82

Day 82 was Recharge from CE again. Thankfully, I managed to keep all of the flexibility I had gained from doing nothing but Recharge for that recovery week I did a couple of weeks ago. I was actually able to get a little deeper into most of the stretches. So, progress is being made.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 81

Day 81 was sculpt 3-4 again. I am still taking it a bit easy with some of the moves to make sure I am protecting my back, but I can generally use the same amount of weight that I was using before the issue with my back arose. I am definitely getting stronger and hit the 10 rep max on a couple more exercises during this workout.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 80

Day 80 was the cardio workout and abs again. It went pretty much like the other two workouts did this week, with my stamina increasing again and getting to the point where I could make it through without stopping or pausing.  

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 79

Day 79 was sculpt 3-4 again. As I did on Tuesday, I made sure to warm up very well and was super focused on form, especially when using the heaviest weight. I only hit a 10 rep max comfortably on one of the exercises so the weight will mostly all stay the same for Saturday's workout.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 78

Day 78 was the Sweat 1-2 and abs. Again, I skipped the yoga portion and only did ab-ripper 100. I did feel like I had a bit better stamina during the workout than I did on Monday, and the abs workout did get a little bit easier.  It is interesting how much a week off can affect you, but thankfully my back has been fine this week and will hopefully keep being so.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 77

Day 77 was the first sculpt 3-4 workout since throwing my back out. I made sure to do a much longer warmup (basically the CE warmup versus the Power-90 stretching) and made sure to be very careful with form, especially when using the heaviest weights. So far, my back feels just fine. I can tell I lost a bit of strength in the week off, but not too much. I was glad to be back at it.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 76

Day 76 was the return to the Power 90 workouts. I did sweat 3-4 again, but skipped the yoga portion since I had done a week of yoga exclusively, and was pretty sick of it. I did find myself getting a bit winded in a couple of spots in the cardio portion, so I did have to pause a couple of times. But, I got through it and did ab ripper 100 instead of 200 because I was kind of gassed by the end. So, not the best workout, but it was better than doing Recharge day after day. 

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 75

Day 75 was the last day of my recovery week. I had planned on doing something other than Recharge, but I was not able to work out until later in the evening so I just stuck with the short workout. Thankfully nothing tweaked in my back so I will be good to go picking back up with the Power-90 workouts.
