Welcome

Welcome to my ever-evolving blog. It started out as a blog on Beachbody workouts and products, mainly when I was a Beachbody coach. I no longer coach, not because I don't believe in Beachbody's programs (I subscribe to Beachbody on Demand and use their workouts every day), I am just not a salesperson and hated that aspect of it. I am more than willing to answer questions about my experiences with their products and the various workouts, and I feel freer to do so without the appearance of giving a biased review of something.

I have also started adding reviews for various things I have purchased like movies, books, CDs, and other products. This was brought about by a fight with Amazon in which all of my reviews were removed over a completely bullshit allegation that I posted a review that violated their terms of service. After going back and forth with the morons in the community-reviews department (even after they admitted that my posts did not violate their guidelines) they restored my account (which took them six months to do), but I have been posting my reviews on my blog to have them preserved in case something like that happens again. And here, I will post uncensored reviews so I will swear from time to time and post reviews that may be longer than Amazon's character limit. Everything I post here on any topic or product is my personal opinion, and I take no compensation for any product reviews I post. I am a member of Amazon's vine program and because I get those products for free, I keep those reviews on Amazon only, but everything I have purchased with my own money, whether from Amazon or some other store/website/outlet, I will post here.

I also plan to do some longer blog posts on various topics, such as how to learn physics, how to get through calculus, and longer reviews of workout programs as I do them. Basically, whatever strikes me as interesting at the time.  As you can see if you navigate around the blog, I had many years in between postings. During that time I was going back to school to get an engineering degree, and learning material that I avoided my first time through college was a different experience and one that gave me a lot of insight into how to do well in those classes, which I will try to impart here for those who are looking to get a science or engineering degree.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 74

For day 74 I did Recharge again. Not because I really felt I needed to for my back, but I was working a bit longer into the day than I had anticipated, so I wanted to do a short workout and did not have a ton of energy. I am not sure which workout I will do tomorrow, but I am going to try and get it done in the morning.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 73

Day 73 was the Recharge workout again. I can say that my back is at 100% again, so thankfully, whatever was causing it to spasm has passed. Doing nothing but the Recharge workout this week has helped a lot both with my back and overall flexibility.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 72

For Day 72 I did the Recharge workout again. Thankfully, my back stiffness and spasms have subsided, so it was much easier tonight than it was Sunday or even last night. I have all of my range of motion back so I think tomorrow I am just going to do some kind of lower-impact cardio, then start back up with the Power-90 3-4 workouts on Monday.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 71

Day 71 was the Recharge workout again. Thankfully, my back is feeling much better. It is basically back to normal. But, as I said in the prior post, I am not going to overdo it this week because I do not want to end up in the same situation I was from Saturday night through Monday evening (or worse). But, assuming all goes well with doing Recharge (and maybe one of the other low-impact workouts) I will resume with Stretch 3-4 on Monday.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 70

Day 70 was the recharge workout. I really needed it because wrenched my back in the last sculpt workout and could barely sleep Saturday night because I was having back spasms. This helped for a while, but my back tightened up again about half an hour after I was done. So, I decided that I am going to take a total recovery week, with no lifting or cardio workout to let my back heal. As I am writing this, it is Tuesday. Sunday night was awful, Monday was better, and I almost feel back to normal today. So, I will probably do Recharge again at least a few more times this week and then resume with Day 71 next Monday.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 69

Day 69 was the sculpt 3-4 workout again. I was able to increase the weight on just a couple of the exercises from the last workout on Thursday and did hit the 10 rep max on a couple more tonight. My back was a bit sore this evening so I did dial things back a little, especially when using the heaviest weights. But, I got through it and am looking forward to the Recharge workout tomorrow.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 68

Day 68 was the cardio and abs workouts again. Today was a struggle as I did not have a ton of energy at all. I think because I did not sleep all that well the past couple of nights. But, I pushed through as hard as I could and did make it to the end. I just had to chalk it up to not being my best workout.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 67

Day 67 was the sculpt workout again. This one pretty much went exactly like Tuesday's workout, using the same weights for most of the exercises, and bumping up the weight on a couple of them. I was able to hit the ten rep max on a couple more exercises this week, although in all of the exercises for which I increased the weight from the last workout I was maxing out at eight reps.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 66

Day 66 was sweat 3-4 and ab-ripper 200 again. I was a bit tired during the workout today so I did have to pause a couple of times, but I was still able to push pretty hard when I was moving. And, ab-ripper was easier this time around than it was the last time. So, overall, it went well.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 65

Day 65 was the sculpt workout again. This one went really well as I was able to max out at 10 reps on quite a few exercises. I tried a new pre-workout powder about an hour before the workout and I think that did help with my energy level a bit. As I have said before, I am not a huge fan of total body circuit workouts. I tend to like to focus on one or two body parts at a time, but that said, this workout does have a pretty good pace which helps me get though it.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 64

Day 64 was the Power-90 cardio and ab-ripper 200 workout again. Overall, the workout went pretty well. I was able to keep up during the cardio workout but still had to pause a couple of times during ab-ripper. But, I got through all 200 reps.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 63

Day 63 was the jump back to CE doing the recharge workout. My flexibility level has definitely plateaued for the moment. Still, I hope that the short yoga sequence at the beginning of the Power-90 cardio workouts that I will be doing three days a week will help me bust through that a little.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 62

Day 62 was the last strength workout of the week. I was able to hit the 10 rep max on many more exercises in the circuits this time, so those weights will all be increasing with the next workout on Tuesday. I am probably going to add light weights to the lunge and squat sequences just to bump up the intensity level a bit.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 61

Day 61 was the third sweat 3-4 workout this week. This one went much better than Wednesday's workout since I had more energy and did not eat before working out. So, I was able to put more effort into it. I did still have to pause a couple of times during ab-ripper, but I did eventually hit 20 reps for each of the moves.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 60

Day 60 was the second sculpt 3-4 workout this week. All of the weights I used for the various exercises are the same as I used on Tuesday. I was, however, able to hit the 10 rep max on a couple of the moves so the weight I use for those will go up on Saturday.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 59

Day 59 was the sweat 3-4 workout again. I did not have a ton of energy during this workout (it did not help that I ate too soon before working out) so I did a lot more modified moves and took a couple of rest breaks.  But, I did get through the entire workout and ab-ripper and got it done.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 58

Day 58 was the sculpt 3-4 workout from Power-90. This one is mostly the same workout as the 1-2 workout but adds a fourth circuit with different exercises (upright rows, forearm curls, max squats, max push-ups, calf raises, and supermans). As is the case in the 1-2 workout, one of the extras uses bands and the other uses weights and Tony uses weights. It is a good circuit workout that has a nice pace that flows well. It does switch things up quite a bit from the CE Push workouts, which is helpful to keep my body from adapting to the push workouts.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 57

Day 57 was the return to the Power-90 workouts, specifically the sweat 3-4 workout and ab-ripper 200. The 3-4 sweat workout has the exact same moves as the 1-2 workout, but they are done faster, and, aside from the kicks, instead of doing two rounds of each three-move circuit, you do three.  The kicking sequence is, for some reason, kept to just two rounds. Then in ab-ripper, you do the same moves, just adding 10 reps to each move.

The workout went okay. I did get slightly winded during the cardio portion and had to pause a couple of times during ab-ripper. And, my abs were definitely sore the next day.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 56

Day 56 was the recharge workout. I would say that my flexibility level is the same as it has been for the past couple of weeks. No additional progress. That may change now that I am going back to the power-90 workouts and will get a bit more yoga on the cardio days.

Workout Update: Power-90/Chalean Extreme Hybrid: Day 55

Day 55 was the last Burn it Off workout for this round. It went fine, again pretty much as the past few times I have done the workout. I actually swapped out a couple of the exercises in the workout with moves from Insanity to get a little better cardio effect, which I think makes the workout a bit better.
